	Description:		Prof. Mohammad Kabir Hassan - Islamic finance is one of the fastest growing and most innovative financial disciplines in the international financial market. It is growing at a rate of 15 % each year, and is expected to be about $ 2 trillion by 2010 in size. It is one of the least understood both by the western financial community and indeed by those in Islamic communities. This lecture offers a clear and understandable examination of this dynamic area of finance, and will help participants to fully understand the fundamental religous principles underlying modern Islamic finance and banking. It will provide participants with the opportunity to understand the religous principles and their interpretation, as well as the diversity and adaptive mechanisms of Islam. At the University of New Orleans since 1990 Mohammad Kabir Hassan is a financial economist with teaching, research and consulting experiences in financial markets and institutions, corporate finance, applied economics and development finance.
