But in the late 1960s, one organization watched her even more closely: the FBI. Seeing Jean’s political affiliations, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover gave the order to “neutralize” Jean. When Jean mysteriously died in 1979, people wondered exactly how far “neutralization” went.
