On this episode of Collider Movie Talk (Wednesday December 13th, 2017) Mark Ellis, Jon Schnepp, Clarke Wolfe and Ashley Mova discuss the following: 1) Will Fantastic Four rights land with Disney if sale goes through? 2) Guillermo del Toro Set to Direct ‘Nightmare Alley’ Remake; Will Produce Scott Cooper’s ‘Antlers’ 3) Woody Harrelson in Talks to Join Tom Hardy in ‘Venom’ 4) Jennifer Lawrence to Star in Icelandic Drama ‘Burial Rites’ for ‘Call Me by Your Name’ Director 5) Joe Johnston to Direct Disney's 'Nutcracker and the Four Realms' Reshoots 6) Mail Bag 7) Live Twitter Questions In a thorough write up from Screen Rant, the site has broken down the potential Disney/Fox merger revealing that the rights to the Fantastic Four could be separate from Disney’s acquisition. The specifics go all the way back to 1986 when Stan Lee licensed the property to Constantin Films, famously leading to a doomed adaptation directed by Roger Corman. In 1999, Constantin formed a partnership with Fox to approach Marvel with a deal in which they agreed that Fox and Constantin collectively share the movie rights. Now the question becomes who owns the rights. Variety reports that Fox Searchlight has ramped up development on two projects from Oscar shoe-in Guillermo del Toro. Sources for the trade reveal Searchlight is in negotiations with Hostiles director Scott Cooper to direct the supernatural pic Antlers, which del Toro is producing, while del Toro himself is attaching himself to write and direct a remake of the 1947 movie Nightmare Alley. BUY OR SELL In a report from Variety, Woody Harrelson has signed on to join Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, and Jenny Slate in Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off Venom. The actor reunites with his Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer, in a part that is being kept under wraps – only described by Variety as a henchman of sorts. Variety reports that Call Me by Your Name director Luca Guadagnno will direct Jennifer Lawrence in a new movie entitled Burial Rites. Lawrence will produce, as well as star in the true-crime drama based on the novel by the same name; which centers on Agnes Magnusdottir, the last woman to be publicly executed in Iceland in 1830. In a report from THR, Disney Studios has enlisted Captain America The First Avenger director Joe Johnston to direct 32 days of reshoots for The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, originally directed by Lasse Hallstrom. Insiders for THR say that Hallstrom, known for dramas such as What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Cider House Rules and A Dog’s Purpose, has not been removed but rather was unavailable due to scheduling issues.
