Economic ties between the U.S. and China have expanded significantly over the last three decades. China is now the United States’ biggest source of imports and the U.S. is the largest destination of Chinese FDI in the world. Amid problems in the political and security realms, trade and economic cooperation were for many years described as the key pillars of the bilateral relationship. But many no longer agree with that characterization. Since becoming president, Donald Trump’s administration has called for a tougher stance towards China’s trade policies, but the specifics of U.S. policy are still under discussion. In this episode, we sit down with Erin Ennis to discuss the U.S.-China economic relationship. |
