EP051: Platoon Leader/Platoon Sergeant Relationship

Category: Education
Duration: 00:38:00
Publish Date: 2018-08-06 23:01:14
Description:

The relationship between a platoon leader and platoon sergeant can be instrumental in the career of a new lieutenant. A typical platoon leader has very little military experience where the platoon sergeant has around a decade’s worth of experience and knowledge. Yet, the platoon leader is ultimately responsible for everything that happens or fails to happen. Successfully navigating this dynamic to build a strong relationship can prove challenging, but can pay dividends if done successfully. In this episode of the Leaders Huddle we discuss the Platoon Leader/Platoon Sergeant relationship.

Key lessons:

  1. Successful relationships require both parties to actively participate
  2. Leaders continually learn and develop others
  3. NCOs can truly impact an officer’s career for years after the relationship

Acronyms/Uncommon Words:
Firstie: A college senior at West Point
