Description: Florida lawmakers have added several new tax cuts to the budget they’re crafting. But at the same time, they need to set aside more reserve funding as COVID-19 continues its spread in the state. It’s called “cognitive dissonance” and Steve Bousquet has been following it. The World Health Organization has formally declared the coronavirus a pandemic. The move comes as some Florida colleges and universities prepare to suspend in-person classes and shift toward online learning. As fears of contagion spread, Governor Ron DeSantis is now limiting access to nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Lynn Hatter has more. Should only Florida’s public employers be compelled to vet their employees through the federal E-Verify database? What about contractors and other private employers?
