Governor’s Race is Set
The deadline to file for the June primary has passed, and the Democratic field for governor still remains crowded. This is despite pressure from the state party to consolidate, as they risk being locked out by Republicans. Dustin Gardiner is co-author of POLITICO’s California Playbook and joins Insight to talk about the road leading up to June, including for Congressional races like in the 6th District, where Representative Kevin Kiley has filed without a party preference.
Shipbuilding and Solano County’s Workforce
Shipbuilding has historically been a major industry throughout California and across the United States, and there is a new push to bring it back. Earlier this year a proposal was submitted to the federal government to have the Delta and East Bay designated a Maritime Prosperity Zone, with the goal of boosting investment and securing thousands of jobs. The plan's backers include California Forever, the billionaire-backed company known for plans to build a new city in Solano County, and also comes as the county has seen hundreds of layoffs since the end of last year. Chris Rico, President and CEO of the Solano Economic Development Corporation (EDC) talks about the benefits the MPZ designation could bring, and why the region is well-suited to put more hulls in the water.
Music Circus’ 75th Anniversary
If you’ve ever seen a hit Broadway musical in Sacramento, chances are good it was staged at Music Circus. For nearly three quarters of a century, the theater-in-the-round located at H and 14th streets has been home to professional shows from Show Boat to Phantom of the Opera, West Side Story to Waitress. Today on Insight, we’ll hear from Broadway Sacramento Executive Director Scott Klier about the company’s 75th anniversary and all that’s transpired under the big tent as they prepare for the opening of this year’s season with Jesus Christ Superstar this weekend. |
