Call to Thin Democrat Candidates for Governor

A crowded field of Democratic candidates is vying to become California’s next governor ahead of the June primary. But some within the Democratic Party are concerned their candidates will crowd each other out and allow two Republican candidates to advance to the general election. CapRadio Statehouse Politics Reporter Laura Fitzgerald talks about a recent letter from California Democratic Party Chair Rusty Hicks to thin out the field by asking lower-polling candidates to drop out if they do not see a path to victory.

Public Art History

Have you ever been struck by a piece of public art and wondered about the story behind it? Ruth Finch is a student assistant here at CapRadio and she was fascinated by a bold and brilliant statue in midtown Sacramento called “Homie, Walking the Dogs.” She turned to Hal Glicksman, an American curator of contemporary art, for answers. He helped curate the show “Aztlan to Magulandia: The Journey of Chicano Artist Gilbert ‘Magu’ Luján” and knew the artist personally. Today on Insight, we’ll learn more about the piece, which you can see in front of the CLARA Studios for the Performing Arts.
