CA Congressman Doug LaMalfa Dies at 65
A longtime North State representative has died. Republican Congressman Doug LaMalfa passed away yesterday morning at the age of 65, following a medical emergency at his home. LaMalfa represented the 1st Congressional District since 2012, following a decade in the state Legislature. We’ll hear from two reporters who covered LaMalfa — Kellen Browning and Ryan Sabalow — as well as a former state legislative colleague, former Senate Pro Tem and Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg.
LAO Projects $18B State Budget Deficit
Governor Gavin Newsom is set to unveil his proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year. And the outlook from the Legislative Analyst’s Office is not good, projecting an estimated 18-billion-dollar shortfall which is worse off than previous forecasts. Gabe Petek, who helped author the LAO’s fiscal outlook for 2026-2027, joins us to break down California’s budget situation and how it could be fixed moving forward.
