Safety Concerns for LGBTQ Community
Safety concerns have been raised recently from Sacramento to Nevada County, following attacks involving the LGBTQ community. The Sacramento LGBT Center held a forum on safety for Lavender Heights in response to “recent hate-motivated attacks in the area.” In the foothills, a string of attacks have shaken their community. Joining us today to talk about what’s happening is Sacramento LGBT Center CEO David Heitstuman and Krystal Myers, an organizer and mother of a victim of one of the attacks in Grass Valley. We’ll also hear from a student who has suffered recent harassment.
Cal Fire’s Camp Cinder
There are countless summer camps out there where teens can get out into nature, make friends, and build life skills. But there is one camp that does all that while teaching young women ages 15 to 17 the hands-on skills they need to become fire fighters. CAL FIRE’s annual Camp Cinder will take place from June 22nd to June 25th in Redding and June 29th to July 2nd in San Luis Obispo. And applications are open now until January 31st. CAL FIRE Assistant Chief and Camp Cinder Shasta Coordinator Katie Mason and CAL FIRE Public Information Officer Chelsea Burkett join Insight to talk about the camp.
