After a monthslong, nationwide search, Sacramento made history this week by hiring the city’s first Black woman to the position of city manager. Maraskeshia Smith currently manages the city of Santa Rosa and will begin her new post in Sacramento on Jan. 5, 2026. CapRadio Local Government Reporter Riley Palmer reports on what this means for the city.

Recapping the Athletics’ First Season

The Athletics’ move from Oakland to West Sacramento drew nationwide fanfare, but did the baseball hype meet reality? San Francisco Chronicle Sports Editor Christina Kahrl joins us to recap the season. We’ll also hear from Denice Domke, President and CEO of the West Sacramento Chamber of Commerce about what Major League Baseball meant to the city.

Inaugural American Kabaddi Cup

Kabaddi is an ancient sport based in India. Made up of two teams, it’s described as part tag and part wrestling. Kabaddi is gaining popularity around the world, as well as in the Central Valley. The City of Stockton will host the first-ever American Kabaddi Cup this weekend at Adventist Health Center. Harsimran Singh is the President of the American Kabaddi Federation and he joins Insight to talk about the sport.
