Apple Hill Opening Season
Labor Day Weekend is the official start of the season for Apple Hill. The prime growing region located along Highway 50 in El Dorado County is known for more than just apples. Today on Insight, we’ll talk with three farmers involved with the Apple Hill Growers Association - Chris Delfino, Delfino Farms and Edio Vineyards; Paul Bush, Madroña Vineyards; and Ben Hanson, 24Carrot Farm - about how the region has grown as a tourist destination over the years.
New Bill to Control CA’s Invasive Swans
The mute swan has long been seen as a symbol of grace, love and beauty, but are also known to be territorial and aggressive. The large white birds are also an invasive species in California, especially in the Delta, and pose a growing threat to native birds and critical aquatic plant life. A bill moving through the legislature would allow hunters and landowners to shoot mute swans for the next five years for population control, but has drawn pushback from animal welfare groups. CalMatters Digital Democracy Reporter Ryan Sabalow talks about AB 764, which has drawn the support of hunting organizations, as well as the issues that face attempts at controlling invasive species.
