Big Basin Redwoods Recovery

Big Basin Redwoods is the oldest state park in California. It’s home to some of the oldest trees on the planet - ancient coastal redwoods - and it was nearly destroyed by the CZU Lightning Complex fire five years ago. California State Parks Director Armando Quintero joins us to talk about the park’s recovery process and lessons learned from the devastation.

Placerville Community Observatory

Behind the Folsom Lake College campus in El Dorado County is a unique resource for people that want to enjoy the wonders of the night sky. The Community Observatory opened in 2006, and lets visitors enjoy its telescopes and sky theater for free on Friday and Saturday nights. Chief Docent Randy Hodges talks about how this facility came to be, as well as some of the astronomical phenomena that can be viewed through the observatory’s telescopes and sky theater – from meteor showers and planetary rings, to a supernova.

California Stage is producing a brand new play based on a fictional character made popular by a Beatles song.
