Catholic leadership in California are responding to the ongoing ICE detentions across the state. Also, the scrutiny behind the bright red fire retardant used during wildfires. Finally, Insight’s monthly “Arts Talk” heads to Gold Country.
Catholic Dioceses Respond to ICE Raids
Catholic leadership in California are responding to the ongoing ICE detentions across the state. The Diocese of Sacramento is voicing its solidarity with a Southern California decree calling on parishioners to avoid Sunday Mass due to fears of immigration arrests. Los Angeles Times reporter Andrew Campa shares his reporting from the community of San Bernardino. Also, CapRadio reporter Gerardo Zavala talks about how Bishop Jaime Soto of Sacramento and some parishioners are responding as immigration detainments continue to emerge in the region.
Wildfire Retardant Draws Scrutiny
As California enters the height of wildfire season, aircraft are once again painting red lines across dry hillsides with a substance known as PHOS-CHEK. The fire retardant is used to slow or stop advancing flames. But growing questions about its safety for the environment and for people is prompting scrutiny. CapRadio’s Greg Micek recently went to the opening of a new manufacturing facility at McClellan Park in Sacramento and joins us with his reporting.
Gold Country ‘Arts Talk’
History and culture in the Gold Country are highlighted in this month’s Arts Talk with Veronica Rodriguez. We’re going to lean into the region’s rich tapestry of historic museums and towns, from the California Railroad Museum and California Automobile Museum in Old Sacramento, to Main Street of Placerville, which hosts its Third Saturday Art Walk this weekend, and Main Street in Grass Valley, where the Center for the Arts serves as a hub. |
