State Fire Marshal on Deadly Esparto Fireworks Explosion
Just over two weeks ago, an explosion at a fireworks storage facility in the Yolo County town of Esparto killed seven people, injured two others and started a wildfire. Cal Fire is leading the investigation into the cause of the incident, and yesterday the agency suspended the pyrotechnic licenses of two men connected to the facility and associated businesses - Devastating Pyrotechnics and Blackstar Fireworks. State Fire Marshal Daniel Berlant joins Insight to give an update on the investigation.
New Proposed Sacramento Homelessness Agency
A bill to merge Sacramento County’s homelessness response into a new regional agency is being met with resistance from local officials. Democratic State Senator Angelique Ashby authored SB 802 to merge local agencies and coordinate how cities and the county use homelessness funds. It initially was opposed by the mayors from Elk Grove, Sacramento, Folsom and Rancho Cordova. But the legislation is still going through amendments.
