Ahead of the match the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, called for the sport of football to unite the planet "as one team". We saw remarkable images of President Putin sitting and watching the opening match next to FIFA's President, Gianni Infantino, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman. Also, President Putin has extended an invite for North Korea's Kim Jong Un to visit Russia in September.
