It makes for horrifying reading. A new grand jury report from the U.S. state of Pennsylvania has found that more than 1000 children were abused by hundreds of Catholic priests over a period of decades. The report discloses new evidence that clergy acted to conceal the abuse and protect predator priests. While the headlines are shocking, they're not new - we've seen these kinds of church abuse stories replicated in many countries: Australia, Chile and Ireland to name a few. On today's CNN Talk, we ask whether the Catholic church can save itself. Hannah Vaughan Jones anchors a strong debate, with Iain Martin, Ayesha Hazarika and Liam Halligan. via Knit |
