Journalist and author Keith O'Brien joins "CBS This Morning Saturday" co-host Michelle Miller in the Toyota Green Room to talk about his new book, "Fly Girls: How Five Daring Women Defied All Odds and Made Aviation History." We've heard of Amelia Earhart and how she made history becoming the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1936, but less is known about her participation in the competitive sport of airplane racing. Thousands of spectators across the country turned out to watch these predominately male competitions in the 1920s and 1930s. Now, O'Brien's book chronicles the stories of Earhart and four other women pilots -- Florence Klingensmith, Ruth Elder, Ruth Nichols and Louise Thaden -- and shows how they defied odds in the sky and on the ground to accomplish feats unimaginable to many women of the era. |
