He explains how people of color use survival math to not just help in life-threatening situations but also as a way to navigate daily microaggressions. Jackson, a clinical associate professor of writing at New York University, shares the discussions he has with his students about race. Plus, he shares his evolution as a writer whose first writing job was in local news, to later writing a novel and now to this memoir.
