Description:
Gary Cohn has resigned as head of President Donald Trump's National Economic Council. We hear from the BBC's Kim Gittelson in New York. Donald Trump has reacted cautiously to news that North Korea is willing to talk about giving up its nuclear weapons if it did not feel threatened. We get the view of Shihiko Goto, an analyst at the Woodrow Wilson Center's Asia Program. The fishing industry in Thailand used to be notorious for violence, exploitation by employers and terrible pay. But the Bangkok government has acted and new laws are beginning to have an effect. Jason Judd of the International Labour Organisation tells us more. The US Secretary of State is heading to Africa for a week but all the attention before his departure focused on remarks he made criticising China's economic engagement in Africa. We hear from former Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, now at Georgetown University and we also speak to Deborah Brauitigan of Johns Hopkins University - and author of The Dragon's Gift: The Real Story of China in Africa. The hostile takeover of the San Diego-based company Qualcomm by Broadcom for a proposed $142 billion is facing a review from US regulators. We speak to James Fontanella-Khan of the Financial Times in New York. When the founder of the international chain IKEA, Ingvar Kamprad, died last month, foreign reporters made a big deal of his modest lifestyle. But budding entrepreneurs say old-fashioned values are holding the country back. Maddy Savage reports from the northern Swedish town of Åre. We cast the net a little wider to draw in some of the business headlines from elsewhere in the world and cross to Sydney to hear from the BBC's Phil Mercer. And joining us throughout the programme are David Kuo of the Motley Fool in Singapore and Andy Uhler, reporter with our US counterparts Marketplace in Austin, Texas.
