Bernadette Benson is a Canadian born elite ultra runner, living in Perth, Australia.

As a dual-citizen, Bernadette holds numerous Canadian and Australian ultra distance records and with a string of victories.

Some notable highlights in her distinguished running career include:

  • Guinness World Record – “Greatest distance run on a treadmill in 12 hours (female), 128.62km” – 2016
  • 1st place and Course Record – Yukon Arctic Ultra (3oo miles) – 2016
  • 1st place (breaking numerous Canadian and Australian records) – Coburg 24 Hour / National Championships, Victoria, 238.261km – 2014
  • Australian Female Ultrarunner of the Year 2014
  • 1st place – Coast to Kosci (240km) – 2012
  • Fastest Known Time – 1,000km Bibbulmun Track, Western Australia – 2011

In this interview Bernadette talks about winning the 300 mile Yukon Arctic Ultra – the coldest and possibly toughest ultra in the world, in a new course record (5 days, 10h, 55m).

Bernadette gives some insight into the mindset of an ultramarathon champion, as well as experiencing hallucinations for the first time, due to extreme fatigue.
