The athletic calendar year will wrap for North Dakota State next week at the NCAA Track Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The Bison are sending two athletes to compete in TrackTown, USA.
The offseason will be a short one for the football team, with the season opener moved up to Aug. 29 as the Bison will play on national televsion against Colorado.
Mandan native Jaxon Duttenhefer didn't pull any punches on what the team is thinking heading into the 2024 opener. "The team is excited to go show the world that NDSU is NDSU no matter what year it is. We have a lot to prove from last year and we have a lot to right some wrongs." Duttenhefer said.
The junior defensive tackle graduated last month in just three years at school and has begun his masters work. He was named the 2022 Missouri Valley Football Conference all-newcomer team and followed that up with three sacks in 2023.
He chats about his goals for the upcoming season and already a busy offseason, which included graduating and getting married.
Bison women's basketball forward Avery Koenen also joined the Bison Media Zone recently to chat about her freshman season, that saw her rack up two double-doubles, averaging five points and six rebounds.
Koenen discussed a busy offseason for the team, which included standout Elle Evans transferring to Kansas. "Obviously it hurts; we lost our two best players, with Heaven graduating as well. It's time for us younger players to step up and get more of a role on the team."
NDSU added two transfer players through the portal in Molly Lenz and Sachia Vanderpool, along with three incoming high school players.
