FARGO — North Dakota State head coach Tim Polasek said after spring football wrapped up last month that cornerback was a spot that "they could potentially add."
Potential become reality Sunday when Cornell (N.Y.) defensive back Anthony Chideme-Alfaro announced he will transfer to NDSU for the upcoming fall.
Chideme-Alfaro is a 6-foot-2, 198 pound cornerback that spent the past three seasons with the Big Red in the Ivy League. He is a graduate transfer, but will have two years of eligibility remaining. Cornell did not play football during the spring of 2021, which leaves Chideme-Alfaro with an extra year of eligibility.

Chideme-Alfaro is orginally from Sacramento, California. His dad Anthony played football at Central Michigan.
Chideme-Alfaro was one of the most sought after cornerbacks in the tranfer portal. He was offered a preferred walk-on spot at Notre Dame, along with scholarship offers at Western Kentucky, Akron, Southern Utah and South Dakota, along with five other FCS schools. He was graded as a top-20 coverage defensive back in FCS by Pro Football Focus.
Chideme-Alfaro played eight games this past season, finishing with 18 tackles, one interception and three pass breakups. He had two career interceptions with Cornell.
He adds some experience and depth to a relatively young cornerback room. Jaquise Alexander and Marcus Sheppard return after splitting starts at one cornerback spot. Jayden Price was the other cornerback, who graduated after last season. Najee Nelson saw more time as the season went along, including getting his first career interception against Southern Illinois.
Redshirt freshman Jailen Duffie played in one game last year, while Termaine Turner and Keegan Huber are still looking for their first game action.
Chideme-Alfaro immediately becomes a player that could potentially play early after arriving on campus.
