FARGO — Patrick Bath is returning to the place where his basketball career started to take off.
The 6-foot-9 forward announced Wednesday that he will transfer from Drake University to North Dakota State and join the Bison. Bath will have four years of eligibility remaining.
"NDSU got in the picture as soon as I got in the portal, they reached out to me right away." Bath said. "What stood out to me the most about NDSU was the culture Coach (Dave) Richman built."

Bath redshirted this past season for the Bulldogs, who won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament championship, reaching the NCAA Tournament. Bath did not play in a game for the Bulldogs.
Bath grew up in Fargo and played his freshman year at Shanley, helping the Deacons to the state tournament that season, falling to Bismarck in the quartefinals.
"I was pretty open to going wherever I saw fit best. I took two visits (Denver and St Marys) before I came on my visit to NDSU and cancelled the other 3 I had after because of how right it felt being back in Fargo.
Fargo definitely played a part in my commitment. I’ve been going to Coach Richman’s camps every since I was a kid and still have friends in Fargo. So joining the NDSU family feels like a return home."
Bath was considered one of the top high school prospects in the state. He and his family moved to the Twin Cities and he enrolled at Totino-Grace High School. Bath emerged as a tremendous player for the Eagles, helping Totino win back-to-back state Minnesota 3A state championships.
Bath averaged 16 points per game during his senior season, he had 7 points and 12 rebounds in the 2023 title game win over DeLaSalle High School. He was named to the all-tournament team and was ranked as the number four recruit in the state of Minnesota.
Bath committed to Drake shortly after his state tournament performance. He took an unofficial visit to NDSU in the fall of 2021, and had offers from The Citadel, Cal Poly, South Dakota, Valparaiso and Siena.
"What stood out to me the most about NDSU was the culture Coach Richman built. Something I tend to see is how a connected group wins basketball games. That is something I saw right away with NDSU as the coaches did a great job on building a family and that’s also evident in the success they’ve had."
He becomes the fifth transfer to join the Bison for the 2024-25 season and third alone from the Valley. Masen Miller and Luke Kasubke are coming in from Indiana State and Illinois State, respectively. They will join Northern State's Jacksen Moni, a West Fargo native and VMI's Brennan Watkins as incoming transfers for the Bison.
Bath and Watkins are the only transfers that will have multiple years of eligibility. ]]> |
