FARGO — North Dakota State has scored a early huge commitment for the Class of 2025 from a familiar state.
Grafton (WI) native James Nellis announced Wednesday morning that he has committed to the Bison. Nellis is a 6-foot-4, 290 pound offensive lineman.
Nellis was named the co-offensive lineman of the year in the Woodland Conference. Grafton is a suburb of Milwaukee, about a half hour north of the city. He was selected as an all-state honorable mention this past season by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association.
Grafton plays in the third-highest class in Wisconsin high school football. The Black Hawks reached the Division 3 state final, losing to Rice Lake, 28-20 at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.

Nellis was a highly sought after recruit. He had FBS offers from Washington State, Wyoming, Miami of Ohio, Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan.
Nellis is considered an offensive guard at the next level. He plays both sides of the ball in high school, finishing with 18 tackles and two sacks in 2023.
NDSU first offered Nellis in February.
Washington State came in last week to offer Nellis. There are NDSU connections to the Washington State staff, the Cougars are coached by Jake Dickert, a former Bison assistant coach. Dickert spent three years in Fargo from 2008-10, coaching the safeties his last two seasons. Much like NDSU head coach Tim Polasek, Dickert hails from Wisconsin.
