Description: FARGO The North Dakota State baseball team and Omaha wrapped up their Summit League series with a 2-2 tie on Sunday at Newman Outdoor Field.

The teams played through the eighth inning before the game was called because of persistent rain.

NDSU was looking to salvage a game in the three-game series after dropping the first two games on Saturday.

Bison starter Landon Koenig and Omaha's Harrison Kreiling battled through four scoreless innings before the Mavericks struck first in the fifth inning. Leadoff hitter Cardel Dick was hit by a pitch, Zach Lechnir reached on an error and Matt Goetzmann drove in Dick on a single to third.

NDSU grabbed a brief lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cadyn Schwabe walked to lead off the inning, took second on a wild pitch and James Dunlap drew a walk. Both runners moved up on another wild pitch and Garret Hill followed with a two-run double to right field.

The Mavericks tied it in the seventh when Henry Zipay reached on an infield single and took second on Goetzmann's sacrifice bunt. Drew Lechnir reached on a bunt single and Zipay took third. Tyler Bishop singled in the tying run but the Bison then turned a double play to end the threat.

NDSU reliever Joey Danielson gave up a two-out single in the eighth but got a flyout to end the inning. The Bison's Colten Becker also singled with two outs in the bottom of the eighth but Mavericks pitcher Luke Gainer got a strikeout to end the inning and the game.

The Bison are now 9-8-1 in the Summit League and 13-24-1 overall. They play next at Iowa at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, in Iowa City, Iowa.
