FARGO Four years ago, Sacia Vanderpool received a scholarship offer from Jory Collins to play basketball at North Dakota State.
It may have taken a lot longer than Collins wanted to get a response, but Vanderpool is coming to Fargo to play for the Bison.
Vanderpool announced Thursday night that she will transfer to NDSU after graduating from the University of Wisconsin.
"It was just an amazing culture that I wanted to be a part of, and playing basketball as a grad student is super exciting." Vanderpool said.

Vanderpool will graduate early from Wisconsin next month after just three years with a degree in kinesiology.
She will have two years of eligibility to play with the Bison and adds a low-post presence that Collins was searching for this offseason
"In high school I could stretch the floor and I could play in the post. I'm 6-foot-4 and in college my game has been more inside. So I'm hoping to continue to try to stretch the floor and my mid- range game. Honestly, I just want to dominate the post, whatever the team needs me to do.
The 6-foot-4 forward hails from Byron, Minnesota and will continue a family lineage of playing in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
Her younger brother, Zach is an incoming football player for the Bison.
"Initially, when I entered the portal, NDSU reached out, and I was thinking about the possibility of us being together and our parents coming up. But honestly, it didn't really cross my mind, when I was on the visit, because I was focusing on what would make me happy and where I would fit in best.
But it definitely is a nice little perk to be comfortable up in NDSU and go to the same school as my brother."
Vanderpool spent three years on the Badgers roster, but played in just six career games, totalling 16 minutes, scoring a total of six points.
"I definitely just gained a new perspective of the game and learned how else I can impact the team. And honestly, it's made me like a better player. I'm excited to have more of an impact on the court. So that'll be definitely a different experience, but I'm looking forward to it."
Vanderpool came to Wisconsin off a great prep career at Byron High School. She was an honorable mention all-state selection as a senior, averaging 17 points, 9 rebounds and three blocks per game.
Vanderpool is the second Division I transfer to join the Bison roster for next season. Point guard Molly Lenz announced last week she is transferring from Illinois State to join NDSU. Lenz is an Eden Prairie native.
With Vanderpool joining the team, NDSU will have eight native Minnesotans on the roster. The Bison are adding three incoming freshmen and with the two transfers, that will bring the roster size to 13 players, which likely will complete the team for next season.
Vanderpool believes she can be an asset on the floor next season.
"I definitely feel like I've a lot to prove. It's just exciting to have another opportunity to show what I can do. I don't have to be a starter. I will be playing more than I have been and it's just really exciting for me." ]]> |
