Description: FARGO North Dakota State men’s basketball team made it official with one player while the women’s program added a high school recruit from Australia on Thursday.

Guard Brennan Watkins from Virginia Military Institute, who earlier this week on social media indicated his commitment to NDSU, signed his papers. The 5-foot-11 guard averaged a team-leading 15.2 points and 3.0 assists last season, including making 87% of his free throws and draining 47 3-point field goals.

“Brennan brings tremendous experience, toughness and offensive ability that Bison fans will enjoy,” said NDSU head coach Dave Richman.

Watkins, from Kearney, Missouri, will have two years of eligibility remaining. He played in 30 games as a true freshman in 2021-22 and sat out the following year with an injury.

The Bison women added to its two-player freshmen class with Amelia Hobson, a 6-1 guard from Parkdale, Australia. She scored over 2,000 career points at Parkdale Secondary College and was selected to the under 18s Victorian State Team, which recognizes the top 10 players in the state.

“She’s just scratching the surface of what she has the potential to become,” said NDSU head coach Jory Collins. “For a young player, she has a great feel for the game and makes everyone around her better.”

She joins a freshman class of Twin Cities players guard Marisa Frost from Centennial and forward Claire Stern from Maple Grove.
