'It's surreal': Fargo Davies lineman Brennan Palmer commits to Bison football program

Description: FARGO In announcing his verbal commitment to North Dakota State football on his personal Twitter account, Brennan Palmer posted a photo of him as a young boy on the field in Frisco, Texas, celebrating a Bison Division I FCS national championship. Now he hopes to do it as a player.

Palmer committed to NDSU on Tuesday.



“It’s surreal to be honest," Palmer said. "It’s a dream come true. I’m super happy with it. I grew up watching the Bison. ... I’ve only known Bison so it’s crazy," Palmer said.



The 6-foot-4, 240-pound Palmer played offensive line and defense line for the Eagles during his junior season. He started along the offensive line. He's expected to play defensive line for the Bison. Palmer is the ninth known commitment for the 2023 recruiting class.



"His explosiveness and his strength and he's going to keep growing," Davies head coach Wayne Werremeyer said. "I think everyone who saw him at camp this summer was really impressed with his length and explosiveness and body frame."

NDSU was the first Division I offer for Palmer and he didn't waste time accepting. He said he wasn't expecting the scholarship offer he received from the Bison earlier this week.



“NDSU was my first and only D-I offer so I was super happy that they were the first," said Palmer, who also received D-I interest from South Dakota State, North Dakota, South Dakota and St. Thomas. “Throughout football, I’ve never really been given anything. I was ready to just grind out another four or five years and earn a spot.”



Palmer had offers from multiple Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference programs, including Minnesota State Moorhead.



Palmer had 36 tackles, three sacks and four tackles for a loss last season, playing in a defensive line rotation for Davies. He played multiple positions on the defensive line.



"Last year he was a kid that kind of came in that no one really expected, kind of under the radar, and has a really nice season for us," Werremeyer said.


Palmer weighed around 180 pounds as a sophomore and played at around 225 pounds during his junior season.



“Huge growth and dedication to the weight room and just a lot of fun to see him mature," Werremeyer said. “An athletic kid and I think he’s going to keep growing and working hard. He’ll find his way.”



Palmer is relieved to be finished with the recruiting process so he can focus on his final season with the Eagles.



“I’m really happy that I got it out of the way and I can really fully focus on my team," said Palmer, who also competes in track and field for Davies. “It’s taken me away from what I’m actually doing and I’m just playing football.”
