FARGO Minot High School’s Darik Dissette wanted to stay in North Dakota to continue his basketball career after high school.
Decision made.
Dissette verbally committed to North Dakota State on Friday, June 17, for the 2023 recruiting men’s basketball class. He’s a rising senior at Minot.
“I knew I wanted to stay in North Dakota, I want to represent North Dakota,” said Dissette, a 6-foot-4 guard. “I had a gut feeling that I knew NDSU was the right decision so why wait, so I’m going to get my shot.”

Dissette helped lead the Magicians to the North Dakota Class A boys state championship last March at the Bismarck Event Center. He scored 22 points and had 13 rebounds in a 73-62 victory against the West Fargo Packers in the state title game. Dissette was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
“He’s not physically mature yet, he’s got a lot of growth he can do physically and I think that’s going to lead him to be a pretty effective basketball player at NDSU’s level,” Minot head coach Dean Winczewski said. “He’s tremendously athletic and has proven to be able to score the ball in a variety of ways. … He defends and he plays with an energy that I haven’t seen a kid play with. He’s a tremendous leader.”
Dissette was a Class A all-state, first-team selection following his junior season. He averaged 22.0 points and 8.1 rebounds per game in 27 games. He shot 56% from the floor and 28% from 3-point range.
“It’s a big stress reliever,” Dissette said. “I’ve just got to go ball out now.”
Dissette said one of the primary reasons he wanted to remain in North Dakota for college was to be close to family.
“NDSU just felt like home,” Dissette said.
Dissette added NDSU’s playing style and culture fit his abilities and mindset. Winczewski said Dissette has the tools to become a strong defender at the college level. Bison head coach David Richman who can't comment on Dissette until he signs a letter of intent emphasizes defense.
Dissette averaged 2.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per game last season for the Magicians.
“I think defensively he could come in and be pretty effective defensively right away. No. 1 his lateral quickness is tremendous and his anticipation is very good,” Winczewski said. ]]> |
