Description: FARGO - Quincy Patterson is heading back east.

The former North Dakota State quarterback told ESPN Wednesday that he is transferring to Temple University, located in Philadelphia.



"It's a shot to be the best me I can be, in a sense..." Patterson told ESPN on Wednesday. "I told all the coaches, I didn't need any guarantees (to start). I just wanted a shot and take it from there and prove what I can do. I know a lot of people know what I can do. I just have to go do it."

Patterson told WDAY Sports last week: "I was thinking about the idea of me leaving really since the end of the season," said Patterson. "I’m not oblivious and I know after winning a national championship its kind of hard to bench whoever you won it with."



Patterson joins a Temple team that finished 3-9 in the American Athletic Conference in 2021. Stan Drayton was hired in December from Texas to take over the Owls.



Drayton hired Jafar Williams from Virginia Tech to be the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach with the Owls. Williams was in Blacksburg from 2019-21, and worked with Patterson for two years.

Patterson racked up seven passing touchdowns and six rushing scores in 2021 with the Bison. He started the first seven games of the season before he was replaced by Cam Miller in the fourth quarter against Missouri State.



Miller started the final eight games of the season, leading the Bison to the national championship. Patterson had a package developed for him after he returned from a shoulder injury.



He ran for a 34 yard gain in the championship game win against Montana State.



Patterson has two years of eligibility remaining.
