Description: FARGO Former longtime Dallas Cowboys vice president of player personnel Gil Brandt has former North Dakota State offensive lineman Cordell Volson ranked in his top 100 prospects for the upcoming NFL Draft.

Brandt, now a senior analyst for NFL.com, has Volson at No. 100 on his "Hot 100" that also includes former Bison wide receiver Christian Watson. The 6-foot-4, 208-pound Watson checks in at No. 65 on the list.

The NFL Draft is scheduled for April 28-30 in Las Vegas. The first round is April 28, the second and third rounds are April 29 and Rounds 4 through 7 are slated for April 30.

The 6-foot-6, 317-pound Volson recently participated in NDSU's annual pro day March 24 at the Dacotah Field Bubble. He tested in the vertical, shuttle and three-cone drill and also did on-field drills with representatives from 29 of 32 NFL teams in attendance.

“It’s always great when you have an opportunity to perform in front of the scouts," Volson said after his pro day workout.

Northern Iowa offensive tackle Trevor Penning is No. 18 on Brandt's list, Montana State linebacker Troy Andersen is No. 55 and Sam Houston cornerback Zyon McCollum is ranked No. 71. The Bison played against each of those prospects over the past two seasons.

Volson played in the East-West Shrine Bowl college all-star game and also participated at the NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis before his pro day. At the Combine, Volson had a 24-inch vertical and improved that to 32 at NDSU's pro day.

Volson ran the 40-yard dash in 5.27 seconds and did 25 reps at 225 pounds in the bench press at the Combine. He did neither of those at pro day. Volson like home her performed in on-field practices and drills at the East-West Shrine Bowl, Combine and NDSU pro day during the pre-draft process.

“At the end of the day, this testing doesn’t show what you do on the field," Volson said in late March.

If Volson is a top-100 selection at the NFL Draft that would put him in line to be drafted late in the third round.

Multiple NFL analysts have projected Watson to get selected late in the first round of their mock drafts.

Brandt is the first high-profile NFL analyst to rank Volson as high as the top 100 prospects for the NFL Draft. Volson, from Balfour, N.D., played in 65 games during his Bison career with game experience at right tackle, right guard, left guard and left tackle. He played on four NCAA Division I FCS national championship teams in five seasons.

Volson said after his pro day that his versatility is an asset he can provide NFL teams.

“At the end of the day, this testing doesn’t show what you do on the field," Volson said after his pro day. “I’m just looking forward to an opportunity to go out and compete and learn a job in the NFL.”
