Description: FARGO It took perhaps longer than expected, but former North Dakota State linebacker Jasir Cox has found a new home. The senior entered the transfer portal in February with the hope of finding an FBS school to play strong safety.

He announced his destination the University of West Virginia on his Twitter account on Monday.

"Watching my dreams unfold," Cox said.

The Mountaineers, who play in the Big 12 Conference, finished 6-7 last season. It will be a different defense for Cox to learn; WVU plays a 3-4 with perhaps the target position for Cox called the "spear" position.

If that's the case, the Mountaineers return sophomore Saint McLeod, who played in eight games last year, and have redshirt freshman Christian Stokes listed as the backup. McLeod was effective in his eight games finishing with 22 tackles and eight forced fumbles.

Cox developed into a dependable stopper for the Bison over the course of his career. He had 58 tackles (third on the team) and three interceptions in the 2021 FCS national championship season.

Cox was a backup his first two seasons before taking over in the 2021 spring season. He played in 47 career games, finishing with 124 tackles.

He's the second member of his family to take the transfer portal route. Older brother Jasir Cox left NDSU and played his final season at LSU.
