Description: FARGO Former North Dakota State guard Sam Griesel had long made it known that this was his final season with the Bison, mainly going out with fellow seniors and good friends Rocky Kreuser and Tyree Eady. His initial thought, it appeared anyway, was to give professional basketball a shot.

It turns out he’s staying in college. Griesel on Sunday announced he’s returning to his hometown of Lincoln, Neb., and will play for the University of Nebraska in his final season of eligibility. The four-year Bison starter had one more year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Dreams to reality,” Griesel said on his Twitter account. “There’s no place like home.”

It included a photo of Griesel and Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg and a photo with his parents.

Griesel averaged 14.3 points shooting 48 percent from the floor. A 6-foot-6 point guard, he led the team with 88 assists and averaged 6.6 rebounds.

The Cornhuskers struggled last year going 10-22 overall and 4-16 in the Big Ten Conference. They were just 7-12 at home.
