Description: MINNEAPOLIS Jack Simonsen's three-run double in the top of the first was all North Dakota State really needed, but for good measure he tacked on two solo home runs as the Bison defeated Minnesota 5-2 on Tuesday at U.S. Bank Stadium.

Five Bison pitchers teammed up to allow the Gophers eight hits and they struck out 10. Three relievers allowed just one hit over the final three innings.

In the top of the first, NDSU's Peter Brookshaw hit a one-out double to right center field. After a strikeout, Hunter Koep walked on a 3-2 pitch, Brookshaw stole third and Will Busch also walked on a 3-2 pitch. Simonsen followed with a bases-clearing double down the left field line.

Simonsen then hit a solo home run to left center in the third and another solo shot, this one to center, in the sixth.

NDSU's Ben Smith started and allowed a run on five hits in four innings. Reliever Riley Johnson worked two innings and gave up a run on two hits. Relievers Jake Drew, Joey Danielson and Skyler Riedinger all worked an inning and combined to allow one hit and a walk while striking out six.

The Bison improved to 6-6 overall and play Maine in three games March 11-13 at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Florida.
