The Free Library of Philadelphia's Book Bike Program

Description: In Philadelphia, some librarians have come up with a really cool idea: They have created a new program called the Book Bike, a custom cargo bicycle, built by Hayley Trikes, and ridden by library staff to community events to provide a selection of library materials. People at those events can check out books from the bikes, sign up for library memberships, and, sometimes, the librarians just hand out free books to those who want them. Anyway, for today’s podcast, I spoke with Philadelphia librarians Becky Shaknovich, Kate Eckert and Link Ross about what led to the program, and some goals going forward.
