On this episode of Baseball Outside the Box, Coach Caliendo welcome longtime friend and former major league second baseman, Jack Perconte. Perconte spent seven seasons in Major League Baseball with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Seattle Mariners, and Chicago White Sox, racking up 433 career games and a .270 batting average. Since retirement, Perconte has worked tirelessly to give back to the game he loves and has authored three books on coaching, parenting, and hitting.
Perconte talks with Caliendo about coaching and parenting, most notably discussing coaches needing to be life learners, having parent meetings and training sessions, and the importance of coaches in developing young players. Plus, the guys discuss giving younger players more responsibilities and learning to deal with failure, as well as giving advice to players and parents who are in the process of attending tryouts.
