Richard Kania has managed Krč Altron in the Czech Extraliga. He coached for the Czech national team in the 2005 Baseball World Cup and 2007 European Championship and coached the Israeli national team in the 2011 European Championship Qualifiers. He has been a Chicago Cubs scout in the Czech Republic.

Czech Republic National Baseball Team has been invited to the 2020 World Baseball Classic Qualifier. Richard Kania, a Coach in the Czech Republic and also a national team coach for Team Israel gets on the podcast to share with the world what they do to attract players to the game, keep them in the game and develop them for the national team programs.
Lots of areas discussed: During the Communist times how was baseball? Were players mentally tougher during those times because of the tough times they went through? How does that help now when it comes in dealing with the failures of the game? Czech Republic was one of the first countries to begin practice and practice games during the Coronavirus, how did the players prepare, how did they deal with the first practice and what did you guys do to make sure they did not get hurt? In the old days they had to deal with many uncomfortable situations like playing on concrete fields, different size bats, scuffed and different size baseballs, gloves came from Russia but mostly left-handed, how did that help now that things are different? Playing other sports like hockey, handball, etc? Different things you do to get players at the very young players to play the game? Ways to make it fun? How you develop arms and why are kids there mentally tougher, stronger, and have good arms? Drills you do with the players. In this episode we had the great Dodger Reggie Smith/Coach Dodgers, Olympic Gold in 2000 join and listen, but we had him chime in and as you know he is excellent.
