Things Discussed:
Donegal is very smart but keeps things simple and interesting. He always says we will learn it together, I do not know it all. We discuss lots of things in the game and also being a hitting coordinator, teaching hitting to individuals, groups, young, older and so much more. As a coordinator how he is working with his players and coaches during the corona virus so they stay motivated, get better physically ad mentally. How much space does he give his coaches to be creative, innovative and come up with drills that work for certain players. Communication of these drills is important because players will move from coach to coach, some things work for one player and others do not, have to know the players well. We get into the vision/mental part of the game. Timing, when do you start teaching it and how? Balance is sometimes assumed but how important is it to practice it? Does balance control the head, eyes, body, where you do not have to think about mechanics? Mechanics overrated? How is batting practice different nowadays and why? Challenging athletes must be done all the time but you have to know each individual on how much, how little, etc. Being strong is important if the body is going to be able to function correctly. We even talk about his experience being the Irish National Team Coach and what made him a better coach by experiencing coaching in Ireland? A lot more to this discussion, check it out.
