Matt Tanner has been with Blast Motion Baseball as the Channel Manager for the past 2 year. He just recently presented at the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Convention.
His passion for sport and particularly baseball was instilled the same year he was born. That same year, 1979, his grandfather Chuck Tanner would help guide the “We Are Family” Pittsburgh Pirates to a World Series starting in motion a life spent in and around athletics.
Sports took him to the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill where he had to opportunity to continue playing baseball as a letterman on the team as a pitcher.
Matt and Blast understand the importance of analytics and data but realize coaches are the ones that take that data and create player development for their athletes.

Some areas discussed:
- How blast motion started and why?
- How does it help coaches and hitters?
- Attack angle described, why it is so important with making the best contact with the ball.
- Technology and where it is in each market – MLB, NCAA, High School & Travel, Youth.
- Recruiting and scouting starting to take notice of tech in decision making.
- Blast Motion and what is does for hitting.
- Data is just numbers without coaches (Powerful for coaches to know technology and data isn’t pushing coaches out. There is a need for coaches to understand it and articulate in different ways for player development. Coaching and coaches have never been more important in my opinion)
- Coaches can get started with technology that major organizations and colleges are using at a limited cost. I believe many think the investment is large but that isn’t always true.
- Where Blast motion is going from here.
- How this makes practice more fun.
- It helps us get instant feedback.
- What feedback are coaches giving blast motion about the why they like it.
- Drills Blast Motion has on the web site to compliment the product.
- Coach can be at home and get all the readings of the player practicing at home.
