On this episode of Baseball Outside the Box,
Coach Caliendo interviews Gary Reinl a 40 year Sports Medicine trusted adviser about the fallacies of using ice to facilitate recovery after pitching or when you develop swelling.
Listen to this incredible explosive episode where Gary contradicts nearly everything that most people believe about icing damage tissue. He gives advice on what is better, products that help the process and so much more.
Gary explains what is wrong with icing, how it slows down the process of recovery and the fallacy of the related RICE protocol (Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate). Interestingly, many Major League pitchers are no longer sitting still with a bag of ice tightly strapped to their body (for example; Corey Kluber of the Cleveland Indians, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxiTF5LQuJs) and clinical experts from throughout the sports world are realizing and admitting that Gary is reporting the truth!
He also discusses his product, the MARC PRO, which activates muscles for recovery. He does not claim that the MARC PRO speeds up the recovery process but instead emphasizes the fact that it does not slow it down like rest, ice and compression. He also acknowledges that not all coaches, especially at the youth level, can afford the MARC PRO and gives alternative easy to follow advice.
