- Sony A7SIII Debut Announced
– In a completely unsurprising turn of events, Sony has announced the announcement date for the A7SIII. The long awaited sequel to the A7SII has a highly imaginative list of new features based on the rumors. Let’s discuss these new features and how the camera stacks up against the recently announced Canon R5/R6 and how Nikon could possibly respond with the upcoming Z6s/Z7s - Decolonizing the Photo Industry: Why, How and Where We Can Begin
– Danielle A. Scruggs discusses her views on the importance of getting people associated with a story to cover a story. Specifically, she brings up instances of opportunities to cover black, latinx and other communities with visual journalists of that same background. – How important is it to have people of the same background cover a subject? Is it really the best way to assign a subject? Shouldn’t anyone, no matter their race or background be able to cover a subject completely? Or, is the issue more nuanced and having someone with a background in the subject their covering make sense and would yield better imagery and a more complete and fleshed out story? – Let’s say you’re an assignment editor and you have the opportunity to assign a visual journalism story about a minority neighborhood, would you give this assignment to an experienced white photographer, or an inexperienced minority photographer? Alternately, would you assign an inexperienced white photographer to capture a story predominantly about white people over an experienced minority photographer? - What is it like shooting a threesome?
– Our guest this week, Isadora Kosofsky, covered a unique story about a threesome between an elderly couple. We’ll discuss how this story came to be, Isadora’s feelings about covering it, and the resultant response she received from it from the larger media, to include her discussing it on the TED stage.
