Description:

APOPO is a social enterprise that researches, develops, and implements detection rats technology for humanitarian purposes such as Mine Action and Tuberculosis detection. With roots in Belgium and headquarters in Tanzania, APOPO also maintains operations in Mozambique, Angola, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. The HeroRATs and their human colleagues have cleared over eight million square meters of land in Mozambique and destroyed over 2,700 landmines. Meanwhile, they have found over 5,000 TB-positive patients originally misdiagnosed by local hospitals in Tanzania and Mozambique. The HeroRATs literally work for peanuts, saving lives for a delicious food reward of peanuts or a banana! This program has been sponsored by Heritage Foods USA. Today’s music provided by PEELS.

“Within Mozambique we’ve destroyed over 3,000 land mines.” [17:40]

“We’re going to continue working until no more lives need to be saved.” [42:40]
