Fostering

Duration: 00:27:16

Description: During this year’s ‘Foster Care Fortnight’ Jonathan Thomas finds out about the role foster carers play in Wales today. Research from Cardiff University suggests Wales may lead the world for the number of children in care, and in the borough of Torfaen, one in forty-four children are under the care of the state. We’ll hear from the Head of Children’s Services in Torfaen about why they need more foster carers, and we’ll speak to Noddfa church in Torfaen about how they minister to a community with such high numbers of children in care. We’ll speak to families who have felt drawn by their faith to foster children, and from the Christian charity ‘Home for Good’ which works through church networks to help and encourage people to foster and adopt. But does having a strong faith necessarily make you a ‘good’ foster carer? And what if you don’t share the faith of the child you look after? Muslim foster care agency ‘My Foster Family’ explains how families can support children whose religion is different from their own.
