This was a complete surprise and dope as hell it basically got setup the night before, and we were added to Vic Mensa's Houston press/promo run, and got to sit down with him and have a quick chat.
We talked about, how he got into rap through KRS-ONE being so young, his other early influences, him being an activist at an early age, his work with the Dakota Access Pipeline protest, how he felt about Trump reversing Obama's order, the turn out of the previous presidential election, his issue with DJ Akademiks and Chicago, the violence in Chicago, his feelings on drill music, and he if he thought it incited violence, his record 16 shots, which has to do with the shooting of Laquan McDonald, how there is a lot of shame in being a black police officer, but how he has also met some strong black police officers as well, the "Code of Blue" silence code amongst cops, and cops that do speak out are reprimanded.
We got to speak about his record "Down For Some Ignorance" off the new album "The Autobiography As Told By Vic Mensa" Which I totally misunderstood as a similar record to NWA " Fuck The Police", but hey it happens! We spoke about how sending in the National Guard to Chicago would be like pouring water on a gunshot wound, recent comments made by President Donald Trump made on how to treat people when they are arrested and when putting their head in the car "don't be so nice”, signing to Roc Nation, how it happened, Jay Z calling him a once in a lifetime type artist, the record off the new album "Memories On 47th Street", if he credited his mom and dad from keeping him away from gangs, what he meant when he said at "age 12 i learned the difference between black and white" almost dying trying to sneak into Lollapalooza and much more. Check it out!!
