When many people think of flood protection the things that first spring to mind may well be man-made physical barriers: sandbags. gullies , storm drains or sea walls perhaps. However, these are not always the most effective solutions to effectively manage flood risks.
Or so says Fred Pearce, former science writer at the New Scientist Magazine and author of a new report called 'Downstream Voices' for Wetlands International.
Pearce calls for more attention to be given to ecosystem-based approaches to flood risk management. Acclimatise caught up with Fred to find out more.
Here Fred speaks to Will Bugler, who begins by asking how he came to write the 'Downstream Voices' report. |
