The world's coasts are valuable assets. Sea-level rise and climate change threaten coastal ecosystems, tourism and the natural beauty of the coast. But when it comes to coastal management policy makers often focus on just one issue: Saving property from the sea.
But the coasts are about much more than this. They are spaces in which people work, relax and play. Recreational activities like surfing are integral to the vibrancy of the coast. So how can we integrate coastal protection and recreation? Is it possible to make climate change adaptation fun?
In this episode Alastair Baglee meets Daniel Ware. Daniel is a researcher in coastal management at Griffith University, a resident of Australia's Gold Coast, and Director of Surfrider Foundation Australia... Oh and naturally, he's a surfer too. |
