This week, the city and the nation remembered and reflected on the death of George Floyd a year after he was killed. Amid the pandemic, a video sparked sadness, anger and highlighted a movement of change, Black Lives Matter.
On this episode, we want to break down why the BLM movement started, why it's been important in major cities, and how the murder of George Floyd has impacted the movement.
Joining us this week is Chivona Newsom, a co-founder of Black Lives Matter, to discuss how the group is trying to have their voice heard in New York City. We'll also speak to Detective Felicia Richards, the President of the NYPD Guardians Association, a group established to promote equality among black police officers.
Also, please welcome Femi Redwood to the podcast filling in for Al Jones.
