Description: It is Day 9 of the 12 Days of Riskmas and, today, the story of the Berlin Conference of 1884. In 1884, a number of European powers came together to discuss how they would carve up the African continent as part of a heightened drive towards colonialism.

I often say that risk is a long game, resplendent with interconnected threat and opportunity.

On today’s episode, I look at how the Berlin Conference set the stage for chaos in Africa, chaos that continues, in numerous forms, to this day.
