The Russian President has ordered military commanders to put the country's strategic nuclear forces on the highest possible alert, sparking condemnation from the US. It comes after Russia's light-armoured forces have faced a number of heavy defeats. Neil Hauer, a journalist in Ukraine, told Mike Hosking he's hearing about 3000 Russian troops have been killed or captured so far. “I’ve heard from Western defence officials, US defence officials who believe that that is an accurate statement, and if that’s true, in just three or four days, is an astounding number.” Ukrainian and Russian officials have agreed to hold "unconditional" talks at the Belarus border tonight.
